How the effective use of voice can enhance career success

There are a lot of smart and gifted people in this world that struggle in their careers because of an inability to communicate in various ways. Speaking isn't just about making noise with one's mouth. Rather it can be a way to paint a picture, describe the solution to a problem, or inspire another individual or group. Being a gifted orator can make the difference between true leadership and simply having an idea that stays in one's head. Therefore, here are a few thoughts on how the effective use of voice can enhance career success.

Vision

The voice can be a powerful tool for describing vision to some people. Sometimes people need to be able to see the "big picture" but there are times where they cannot grasp that picture simply by reading something. There are times where the human voice is about to convey that vision and when someone is effective in that type of communication, they can get noticed. Getting noticed is often the most effective way to advance one's career because someone else has recognized a talent and may pass that information on to the right people.

Solutions

Another way the voice can be effective is in explaining the solutions to various problems. People appreciate it when someone is able to effectively help them through verbal instruction. Granted, someone should make sure that help is actually desired as there are times when people aren't looking for someone to offer help. Therefore, a good voice should be coupled with a certain amount of wisdom so that the voice does not become obnoxious.

Inspiration

Finally, the voice can aid one's career when it becomes an effective tool of inspiration. In a variety of careers, organizations are looking for people who can lead and inspire greatness in other people. Sometimes an effective voice can produce a passion that motivates people to go beyond their normal level of performance. Again, some people are gifted at this and others are just loud. Knowing which category that one fits into is crucial when attempting to inspire others to produce.

Overall, the voice can be an effective tool in developing one's career but people also have to be aware that the voice can also be a detriment in certain situations. Sometimes people do not want to hear someone speak at all and other times people are unaware that their particular voice is not the one that people want to hear. Therefore, the voice can enhance one's career but so can basic self-awareness. There is a time to use one's voice, but sometimes the ears are a more effective tool of communication.
