"Don't Take My Key"
Don't take my keys,
I am not done living life yet
A life that I have led for nine decades.
I may appear to be older and fragile to you
And physically, this may be true
But trust me my dear, I have
A mind that is still as sharp today
As if it were forty years ago,
And even earlier than that.
I can still roll with the best of them
So, take a look out into the world and
See, for I know what I am
Talking about, cause do I know me
I know me better than you know who you are
So, don't take my keys
Not to my car, not to anything
That I still have sense enough to control
For if I allow you to take them
It won't be 'til I am dead and gone
Not necessarily dead and gone into the heavens
But mentally unable to fend for myself
Because I can still maintain my daily chores in
my own home and I drive to the grocery store, and any place else I choose to go I am not numb-minded,
I do know where I am
So, if I say that I am able
Please do not ignore me,
For I know that I am more capable
In taking care of me and mine more so than many
young folk, at any given time
So, go on about your business with yourself
And on your way out, leave my keys on the shelf.

To leave you
I never wanted

For anything to be different
I only wanted
