Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. But society has definite criteria for what is defined as beautiful and most of us, whether consciously or not, abide by these beauty standards. Although a beautiful woman seems as though she has it all there is often a battle for acceptance and approval. The beautiful physical attributes can actually be a detriment in many social situations and present a monumental struggle.
The consensus is generally that beautiful women attract and get all the best men at the snap of their fingers. This is not always true. There is often reluctance by men to approach a stunning woman. Fear of rejection and dismissal can burst a man's ego in short order. Taking that chance does not seem worth it for many men. Some will purposely move toward a less attractive woman to eliminate any chance of rejection. Overcoming vulnerability can be an awesome task for a man lacking in his own self-confidence.
The dumb blonde theory can wreak havoc on an intelligent and beautiful woman (whether blonde or not). Assumptions are often made in business and social situations that a good looking woman is lacking in the brains department. It is an actual barrier that can be difficult to overcome. But the intellectual woman can prevail over these assumptions and gain associate's confidence in short order with a few spoken sentences that establish their authority as a bright person that just happens to be drop dead gorgeous.
Girlfriends for the beautiful woman can also be a problem. Some of the same reasons that men have a difficult time approaching a woman of loveliness apply to women also. Jealousy often seeps into the mind of women and will prevent them from talking to a woman that they fear is more beautiful than them. Snide remarks and ridicule of some minute flaw are sometimes more prevalent. A beautiful woman that tries to befriend a less attractive one can be construed as feeling sorry or pity for them and a snotty retort may be the result.
Loneliness is often felt by celebrities and public figures. The "beautiful people" do not have a guarantee on a full and content life. They can be socially ostracized just because they have been placed on a pedestal and appear unreachable. Yes, the trials and tribulations of life are even sometimes more prevalent in the land of the exquisitely beautiful.
The old commercial that states, "don't hate me because I'm beautiful" still holds some merit. Prejudices can include beauty. The struggle within women has many facets and spans across the globe. Social struggles resulting from being beautiful are a valid concern to today's society. Opening our hearts and minds to all sorts of people can bring us unexpected results that make our life fuller and more meaningful.
