The United States of America is a country that loves to lecture the world about freedom, democracy, and human rights. It is a country that has invaded other countries in order to engineer regime change and make the world safe for democracy. The United States of America is a contradiction since democracy and freedom are preached but never practiced.
When a person expresses an opinion that is contrary to the governing elite of America or the majority of the people [including those who may agree with that person but does not say anything], that person is lectured about freedom, democracy, and human rights. They are also told that if they "do not like America, they can leave."
This comment alone is an example of the intolerance that exists in America and nurtured by the governing elite and its supporters. It is uses as an attempt to silence the dissenter and make him or her leave so that there is no dissenting opinion. The next example is the ballot box.
The countries of Europe as well as Iraq and Afghanistan have more political parties than people competing in elections. Each political party competes equally for a chance to govern their countries. The United States of America may have many political parties but the Republican/Democrats are the ones with the monopoly of power for over a century and a half.
The suggestion of introducing multi party politics in the United States of America is rejected as destabilizing. Alexander Peters who was Assistant Attorney General of North Carolina used the same arguments that have been used by dictators such as Chavez and Mugabe concerning stability.
The people who govern the United States of America called the Republicans and Democrats suggest to the voter that any vote for other parties are a "wasted vote". They suggest voting for the "lesser of two evils" which is evil anyway.
If the Republican/Democratic Elite think a vote for another party is a wasted vote, why are their restrictions on the ballot for choice? The United States of America was founded on the basis of Life, Liberty, The Pursuit of Happiness, and Freedom of Choice. Alabama is one of the states with the worst ballot access laws in the country.
The media refuses to report on alternative parties but give ample publicity to the Republicans and Democrats. This is another example of the fact that the United States of America is not a real democracy. A true democracy would have a media that allows people of different viewpoints to express themselves without being ridiculed and marginalized.
The United States of America cannot call itself a free and democratic society if its government takes money away from the taxpayer and then makes them accept a Social Security and Medicare system that is almost broke. A truly free and democratic society would have allowed people to take responsibility for their retirement and health care instead of forcing a one size fits all government program that implies that the people of America know nothing about health care or retirement.
The concept of democracy in the United States of America does not make sense when civil discourse is replaced by the bickering of two parties Republican/Democrat and their Red/Blue attitude that has done nothing but tear this great country apart. Until the people of America have the possibility to exert pressure to demand greater change and a political opening, there will never be a real democracy in America.
