Think about politicians, singers, priests, professors, or tourist guides. Could you imagine the tough time they would have, if they were afraid of speaking in public? What is it that they have, that enables them to speak in front of crowds of people with confidence and effectively?
The answer is nothing. Far from being specially gifted people who were prized with the strange talent of addressing masses of people fearlessly, all of them are human beings, like the rest of us. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking, all of them are individuals who, at some point of their lives, felt nervous and anxious with the very idea of standing before a group of people, and delivering a presentation. They all had to learn their ways and tricks that would enable them to gain confidence and becoming effective public speakers. Since confident public speakers are made, not born, most human beings can build up that confidence in themselves in order to be effective speakers.
I have myself been through that confidence gaining process, which throughout the years made me become a remarkable public speaker, and been recognized for my presentation skills. I would like to share with you some of the tricks and tips that I have learned along my way in order to excel in this discipline, if you allow me to call it that way, which has proved to be an extraordinary tool to enhance my leadership skills and reputation as a communicator.
1. Public speaking is just talking: Picture yourself hanging out and having fun with friends. Could you picture how bizarre would it be, if you suddenly felt nervous to tell them the joke you heard the day before, or to tell them openly how great (or bad) you think is the movie newest movie at the movie theater? It doesn't make much sense to think that you could feel uncomfortable in those situations. Yet, essentially, you are attracting the attention of a group of people and conveying ideas to them. That is a form of public speaking, and if you are able to do that, your chances of becoming a confident public speaker in all other situations are huge.
Now that you discovered that there is a great public speaker hidden somewhere inside you, you can move to the next step and dominate the arts of public speaking in formal situations as well!
2. Practice your speech: If you've heard before that "practice makes the master", you have heard a big truth. To deliver a great formal presentation, it is necessary to prepare your speech
