In order for a draft to be truly democratic, women will have to serve in the military if there is a draft. NOW will demand it. And since all people are supposed to be treated equally, the training for women should be the same as the training for men. They should be in the same barracks, take showers together, use the same toilets, get drunk together when they are on leave, and even knock heads in fights just like the men do.

The military is more reasonable now since female soldiers are not treated like men. But if there is a draft, equality will have to be maintained. If a woman can't carry a 200-pound man on her back when men are required to do that, then she should be washed out just like men who are incapable of that are. If she can't be on the field for a month without needing to take a shower, too bad. Men can stand it because they may have to do it in combat.

We need to treat women and men the same in combat. A squad may have 6 men and 6 women. If a woman is taken captive by fighters in Afghanistan, she should be willing to be humiliated because the ones she is fighting against will have no respect for her. She can scream Geneva Convention. But that won't keep the fighters from maybe raping her and torturing her for daring to fight against men. If you think mental trauma is bad for soldiers now that return from the Middle East, think how it will be for women who have to go through the horror of humiliation and torture. That is why recruits should be treated the same. If water boarding is done to men, it should be done to women. If having men stand naked in a freezer for an hour is done, it should be done to women too.

Women's groups will be screaming. But abuse to women will be their fault if there is equal abuse to men. If the groups say women should be treated better, then that will mean they are admitting women are weaker than men and shouldn't be subjected to the same ordeals. That will defeat their arguments that men and women are equal and should be treated the same. That would be like saying plow horses should be raced against racehorses since both are horses. The only considered difference between men and women should be the W and O in the name women.

The obvious differences between men and women should make a draft impractical since men's groups will insist that women be treated like men to make the draft fair. The lawsuits should hold up in court since all people are supposed to receive equal treatment if the program is a government program. The military should be no different because the main purpose for a military is to kill people and destroy things. If that is what is required to bring peace, so be it.

A universal draft in Israel works because women are treated differently than men are in many cases. They are soldiers and can fly combat missions. But that is mostly done by men. But in America where equality is supposed to be a guiding principle, women will die in wars in the future that now are protected.
