How to care for your skin as you get older

Genetics play a role up to a certain degree to keep young looking, clear skin. But when you reach age 50, you are considered responsible for your own health. Some wise elders like to remind: "you begin to reap what you have sown when you were younger." This also means that whatever steps you take now while you are still relatively younger, you will eventually gain all the benefits when you get older.

1) Keep away from drinking alcoholic drinks and from smoking.

In the past, this writer had been a drinker every chance he got. He even had regular drinking buddies. But when he turned into his late 30s, he has taken steps to considerably reduce his alcohol intake. He has several friends who never smoked nor drink, even if they have always worked in the entertainment industry. They look elegantly youthful for their age. They would always advise this writer to quit drinking, which he heeds now by taking water, red wine or mixed drinks when the occasion calls for it. Also, he does not take alcoholic drinks when he is alone.

2) Keep and follow a cleaning regimen for your self.

Follow the advise on doing cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and hydrating procedures that you have to be doing at least twice a day. How does this writer know this helps for sure? He learned to become comfortable with the procedures hands on. He read and re-read literature on these products, and has come up with what works for him now. He's shifted from one product set to another, and will continue to do so, as long as he sees results on his skin.

3) Eat healthy, and eat with conviction (read: be responsible for what you eat).

Greens are best, fiber-rich foods are also fine, and meat (white, including fish, plus the darker variety) have also brought great results for this writer. Switch your eating habits, and learn to eat a variety of foods gradually, thus teaching in the process your taste buds to also yearn for other food, and not just the usual so-called pleasure foods (sweets, ice cream, cakes, fatty-laden meals). Certain nutrients can be had from eating varied food groups and sources. You need to study what fits your self best.

4) Also take multivitamins, anti-oxidants, and minerals daily

This writer recalls having taken most of these since he is a child, as an added benefit of being born with a Mom who
