Poetry: Let me be strong

by Masimba Mukichi

Created on: August 28, 2009

Yes , the die has been cast,

Yes, it has happened,

Yes, it is real,

It is the truth you are seeing.

It is his body we are viewing.

It is his coffin we are buying.

The crowd is lining the streets,

To bid farewell to him.

He is dead.

My husband is dead.

My better half is nomore.

Shot dead in action,

At the battle front,

But,let me be strong,

For the sake of my children.

Let me be strong,

To fulfill his death wish,

Of dying for the nation.

Let me be strong,

For the sake of his spirit,

To live on and rest in peace.

Let me be strong as an honour,

To this gallant son of the soil.

Let me be strong ,

For the sake of giving other soldiers hope.

For the sake of encouraging them,

That this war can be won..
