Even in a democracy, government is a necessary evil. Once the two wolves vote to eat that sheep, government makes sure the sheep is compliant. A famous Marxist once said that power comes from the end of a gun. And he was right. The ultimate power of government is the power to kill you where you stand. Even if you don't believe the policemen is good or just or right, most normal people will eventually do what the policemen says rather than risk getting shot.
The violence inherent in government can be subtle. The Internal Revenue Service rarely threatens to blow your brains out. Rather they threaten to take all that you have earned and accumulated and give it to lazy welfare cheats who are raising drug dealing juvenile delinquents to prey on you.
The more Marxist a government is the more control it has to have. This is why Universal health care will eventually make it illegal for you to buy your own health care. Canadian citizens who tire of waiting in line to die in their system are forced to come to the United States to buy health care. They can't buy it in Canada. That's what happens when health care is "free."
Fascist governments like the government of George Bush are also power hogs. George Bush gave himself the power to wave a wand and declare you and every member of your family an "enemy combatant." If Lord God Emperor King George had made this pronouncement about you and your family then the other powers he had magically given to himself would have allowed him to stick you in a jail for years with no lawyers, trials or visitors. Lord God King George in cooperation with some brain dead idiots in congress, also had the power to open your mail and listen to your phone calls.
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is why Obama is more dangerous than Bush. As long as even one legislative body is of the opposite party it will actually oppose the president and we can have freedom and liberty. When the executive and legislative branches are all of the same party, prepare to be a slave. Under Bush the slavery would have been a rule of the rich-a plutocracy. Under Obama, if we are lucky, we will be transformed in the Union of Socialist and Marxist States of America. If we are unlucky, prepare to be Red and Expert. Prepare to swear your undying loyalty to the communist state.
Under Bush, even when he was at his more powerful, the press had at least some feeble power to oppose him. Unfortunately, at the times when the power of the press was most needed, like when Lord God King Emperor George Bush called for a pre-emptive war on the only nation on earth that was certain not to be a threat to us-Iraq-the press was silent or compliant.
Under the Chosen One, Lord Barack Hussein Obama the Merciful, the press has freely admitted to feeling tingling sensations going up both legs whenever the Beloved Leader reads from teleprompter. Since journalists are Obama's willing lap poodles-your only choice is to abandon every hope.
Oddly enough, what the far right exhibited during the rule of Lord God King Emperor George II was the same that the far left exhibited under the Chosen One, Lord Barrack Hussein Obama the Merciful. They both hate democracy. They hate the messiness of it. When we run around doing what we want to do and saying what we want to say, we rather often do and say things that are objectionable to the party in power. The powerful want the ability to watch over us and guide our actions and to punish us when we worship the wrong Gods. No one in government believes in freedom. They would rather control you. When you stood in in line at that government office with guards glaring you, ready to pounce should you do anything so foolish as to try to use your cell phone, you understood the lesson your government was trying to teach, didn't you?
