How to deliver incredible customer service

The Dying Art: Customer Service

There is a dying art, a rarity in business. Some of us have learned not to expect it. Others are always on the lookout for it. And some move through life normally slightly irritated because their expectation is usually unmet. But every once in a while, we encounter that rare shining jewel and are pleasantly delighted by incredible Customer Service.

Give more than the Customer Expect!

Nothing is more incredible than customer service well 'cut above' expectation. One of my favorite restaurants I revere over one of its higher priced a la carte competitor. Yes, the a la carte restaurant's food is incredible, but its customer service is dry, cool and indifferent. While, yes, you will get your sides with your entre at my favorite, but every server in the restaurant is at your service. Every server pulls your finished plates. Every server has a little napkin folded into a handy triangle to remove food or liquids that may find its way onto your table with a smile. Every server is at your disposal and eager to get you that 'extra special unique to your taste item' that make your dining experience most enjoyable. And your assigned server has a nice balance between a warm fun engaging personality and understanding your desire for space to enjoy whomever you have chosen to dine.

Everyone has a Standard of Expectation. This standard says 'these are the normal things I expect when I consider myself having been provided excellent service'. I shop online a lot. And there are apparel companies that I don't have to worry about how well the clothes will be made, the grade of the materials they use or if the size I order will fit, because they consistently offer quality.

What I don't expect, but love, is when placing my order I am given an extra 15% off because I am a noted customer. A free gift is thrown in just to say thanks for my business. Or the service representative asked me how did the 'green skirt with blue polka dots' I purchased three weeks ago work for me. She remembered me not being sure that those colors would match the blouse I had in mind to wear with it. And I am impressed because I didn't even realize she was the same representative.

A regular customer expect shipping of their recent purchase to be 14 days, but your computer notes that this customer has made over five purchases this month. It automatically upgrade their shipping to 2 days. The system flashes the upgrade, so the representative can inform the customer. I would
