Defining the American dream

by Joseph Evaldi

Created on: August 27, 2009

The American Dream is an illusion to us compared to what we actually feel and believe it to be. We would like to believe that the American Dream is when we aspire to be who we want to be, but what is that really? We walk around in our bodies with this illusion of America and the illusion of our history. Many of us don't even know our identities anymore or know who each other anymore. We live in our collective of lies fearing what another might think of us because our identity might be shattered. The fact is we need to realize what the true America is and it's identity before we could actually realize the true dream of America.

Before our American settlers settled into America, The Native American Indians, the Cherokee, the Cheyenne, the Mohegan, the Hopi and many other Native American Indians lived in this land we know of as America. They lived, one with nature and one with their spirit. They knew who they were and what our nature was with creation. They to lived and bleed as they also experienced the American Dream. They suffered a trail of many tears as they were pushed of their land by Europeans who wanted to conquer and rule the world. They also had the American Dream and that was to disband anything we hold sacred in this world. 500+ years later we live this damage and all of us have been affected. Our waters around the world are polluted, our trees are being knocked down, machines operate the farms. We are not one with nature any more. We don't even know how to truly communicate with each other any more. The Hopi Indians predicted this time in history, but all of us are so bent and caught up with our ways and our beliefs that we fail to look at the truth that's within all of us.

On the other side of the spectrum many of us are sick of the world we live in. We are sick of our laws the govern us that also keep those in power that don't hold our best interests at heart, we keep the rich rich and the poor poor. We let our militaries do whatever they please because they attacked us. We as America and the world are acting all on our emotions and because we feel hurt we want revenge. When will we learn that revenge will never solve anything. When will we learn that we have the power to change the world. Is it fear that holds us prisoners of our destiny or are we caught up in ways that destroy our nature. The Native Americans believed in nature and they believed in unity and harmony of their land. Their may have been dangerous tribes, but they held the land sacred. Most of the teachings are forgotten to the young and lost and many things in our world have been lost.

In this time of change, we must realize what the true American Dream is and not the one our forefathers handed down to us. We are all prisoners of our environment and we have to fight for our spiritual freedom and fight for bettering the earth and not the shame of Global Warming as Al Gore stated as fact. But keeping land and changing as we inside feel is best for our world and universe. We must live the true American Dream. A Dream that lets us be open and free with our ideas. A dream that holds our lands sacred as they once were before. I feel pain because I am away from nature and am to busy to see it and I saw beach today that was polluted and it hurt. Maybe we are all feeling this pain but are to scared to do anything about. I asked that you open your heart and settle your differences with one another despite if your right our wrong. I know I have differences that I will settle when time comes. Our humanity depends on it.
