We have struggled for twenty years
Pushing and pulling, hurting and holding
One of my darkest fears
Was losing what we had
But what we had was not built on what could last
Over twenty years we became accustomed to each other
Reminiscing, crying and mulling over the past
Will not bind our spirits
We were not partners. I was a step behind.
I gave in and laid it down one too many times
You want to start again but I won't rewind
I can't go back to that.
You are not the monster I once believed you to be
But you and I are not one
We do not connect in the future that I see
Our values and our goals are a world apart.
This chapter has been rewritten and re-read until it's torn
It is time to turn the page and move on
My mind, my body, my spirit is worn
This has to end before I lose everything I am
Turn the page and build on we've learned
We don't have to be filled with regrets
No more living each day waiting to be burned
No more waiting for the ball to drop
Let's turn this page and begin a new life
Separate but as friends
I can no longer be your wife
But I can carry our experience into someting new.
You can do it too.
Please. Just turn the page.
