Should Bob Burke resign? Absolutely not. The article didn't really spell out what the "harassment" charges were specifically. Since this just happened yesterday, anyone thinking he should resign is making a rash decision. I do not know this man and I have no knowledge of his record...good or bad. I do not live in the State of Connecticut. I am, however, willing to wait for the facts to surface before forming any opinion, and I hope everyone else would do the same. In our country, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty, but that doesn't stop people from forming judgments...mostly unfair ones. The good old golden rule of "do unto others as you would have done unto you" is a good example of not being so quick to sit in judgment. Sometimes that finger we point can come right back in our own face.
I am concerned about the fact that even though the police knew they had to arrest him, it appears they really didn't want to do so. Seems their hearts weren't in it, but they had to do their jobs. Whoever brought these charges against Mr. Burke has not given enough information for the public to side with him/her or Mr. Burke. The lack of "good" information in rather hidden in the article, and the vagueness of the charges make this article seem like it was premature for the reader's eyes, but someone thought it was "news".
If Mr. Burke is a civic-minded person and he feels his record is a good one, then I am willing to "wait and see" what further develops...if anything. Because of his political profile, I am curious if these allegations of "harassment" aren't really a con job to discredit him. What better way to get them out of an election race than to raise suspicion of someone's character and behavior?
If this sort of crime ever went to court, I'd really want to know so much more about the person making the accusations and bringing charges against Mr. Burke...or anyone is a similar situation. It is unfair and unwise to assume guilt when the facts are so sketchy and vague.
If facts surface to show Mr. Burke is guilty of these charges, I would hope he would do the honorable thing and at least apologize. Thinking he should resign seems a bit extreme since we have kept those in much higher positions in office for much greater and more serious offenses. Sometimes, the best punishment for those who are guilty is to let them "experience " themselves.
