Evaluating Hillary Clinton's plan for ending oil dependency

Ending our country's dependence on foreign oil will take real leadership. Hillary proposed a simple idea to help end the cycle of dependence: put some of the oil industry's windfall profits into a fund that would help develop practical new sources of renewable energy.
What do you think about Hillary's plan? Should we use some of the oil company's record profits to fund alternative energy research? What are some other ideas to reduce our dependence on foreign oil?

I think this is an excellent idea. They are seeing record profits while the country sees record lows in the overall economy because the American people are spending all of their money on gas. It gets harder and harder to put food on the table for our children and ourselves when the dollar you make goes less far every day. Driving back and forth to work costs money. Here in rural Oklahoma some people drive a good distance to be able to have a decent paying job, but even at the highest wages in the area, people still aren't able to make ends meet because what money doesn't get used to pay bills goes to gasoline, and sometimes even the money that was supposed to go to bills gets used up for gas. If we spend everything we earn on the gas it took us to earn it, isn't that defeating the purpose? Same goes for having a job to make your car payment, but saying you wouldn't need the car if you didn't have to get to work.

So again, I think that putting the oil company's extra money (or at least a good-sized portion of it) into researching more things like wind power, biodiesel and ethanol, we would benefit not only ourselves but our children and grandchildren to come as well.
