Should obese passengers have to pay more
There is a such thing as being fair to all people regardless of race, age, gender or disability. Airlines shouldn't charge overweight people extra for a plane seat, while smaller passengers pay less. Perhaps, the airline industry should try and accommodate all of there passengers for comfort.
I understand no one wants to be uncomfortable while flying. However, just because someone is obesed, doesn't give the airline industry a right to treat them unfairly, unfortunately they do. From recent personal experience, I flew to New Orleans, La and I had to pay extra for seating and when I boarded the plane, there was a gentleman sitting next to me and we both were uncomfortable.
When I complained to the stewardess, she told me that I would have to be moved to a double seat and pay, I explained to her that I already paid for two seats. No one helped me and that gentleman and I was stuck riding on the plane without any arm room and very uncomfortable, and flying back home from New Orleans, I was put in the same position, sitting next to another passenger and we both were riding in discomfort, the man complained that he had no arm room to read his books, and he wanted the arm rest down, which was impossible because of my size. He stood up in the aisle to read his book while the plane was in flight. I was very humiliated.
After all the money passengers of all sizes pay out to airlines. we should all be comfortable on the airplane. I also notice since 9/11 the airline industry treat American passengers like prisoners and terrorist. although it's for our safety, I don't think it's necessary to disrespect paying passengers. Money does not grow on trees, if it did, I'd be the first to plant a field of them. Most people are struggling with this bad economy, overweight people are and thinner people, and again it isn't fair that overweight people are charged more.
The airline industry should design larger seating areas and larger bathrooms where everyone can benefit and not feel cheated. From my experience, I won't be flying for a very long time, until things have changed with the airline business. Until all people ban together and demand that airlines change their policies and rules we will all be overcharged and overweight people will be discriminated against.
