A New Viking
I am a diehard Packers fan. You might find that funny because I don't follow football very close at all, but when it comes to the Packers, I usually know who the players are, and sometimes I can match up the name with the number. Does that sound like a fan? Well I am.
My parents had Packers tickets the whole time I was growing up. They gave them up instead of giving them to their children, so someone else was fortunate to get their seats, seats that people wait on waiting lists for probably the next several generations.
As a kid, I was a Bart Star fan to the point where I carried his football card in my wallet. Now, that is not to say I carry a torch for Brett or his football card around. I don't. However, I like Brett Favre, and consider him the best football quarterback in the history of football, but then I'm also biased. He broke more records than any other quarterback or other football player ever. He was/is the best of the best. I enjoy watching him strut his stuff on the football field, not because he has any special charisma, but because he loves to play the game. He is a true football player.
He had some bad things happen here in Green Bay, which caused him to leave. He retired after serving seventeen years on the often frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. He had his good days and his bad days, but he never let his bad days get the better of him. He went out there to play ball, and nobody did it better.
So, am I upset that he's wearing purple? I could think of worse colors he could be wearing, for instance he could be playing for the biggest rival of the Green Bay Packers - the Chicago Bears. They have been the biggest rival even before the Vikings or the Dallas Cowboys. It will seem strange to see him in purple, but he loves football, and it isn't surprising to me that someone who loves football as much as Brett Favre would find a way to keep playing.
I don't see him as being out of control with his idea of retirement. I truly believe he intended to retire, but when you consider he is playing a game he would probably play even if he didn't play professionally, it just makes sense for him to let us watch him a little longer.
I am not upset to see him playing football. I just wish it wasn't for the Vikings. I wish there was some way for him to come back to Green Bay. He would be well received here. It was a shock to find out last week that he was going to wear purple. I'm still getting used to the idea. I know
