The Philadelphia Eagles' 2008-2009 season was very successful as they made it all the way to the NFC championship game. Their record was 9-6-1 in the regular season and then they got 2 playoff victories. In a difficult division like the NFC east, it is hard to be that good and some say they might have a better team this year. It is clear that veterans Donovan McNabb and Michael Westbrook want a super bowl victory and this year might be the year.
In the secondary they lost many time pro-bowler Brian Dawkins, but they recovered by signing Ellis Hobbs from the Patriots. They also look to improve their offensive line by adding offensive tackles Stacy Andrews and Jason Peters.
July 28, 2009 Eagles fans would know that one of the greatest defensive coordinators in the league died of melanoma. This is undeniably the worst thing that has happened to the Eagles team over the off-season. He will be remembered for coaching the Eagles and the fact that he was a master of blitzes. He will be missed.
Michael Vick is one of the most talked about acquisitions this entire off-season. The Atlanta Falcons released him after he ran into legal trouble involving dog fighting. After serving his two year jail sentence he was signed by the Eagles and no one knows what kind of a player he will be moving forward. He signed a contract worth 1.6 million dollars the first year with a team option for five million the second year.
Michael is on the roster as quarterback but we do not know if he will ever actually play that position. If he still has the skill set he might come in sometimes but we may see him in other positions. He may play as a quarterback in what is called a wildcat offense. This is basically just when the quarterback is a threat throwing the ball and running as well. We could see him as a running back, wide receiver, or even kick returner. He has the athletic talent and skill set for all of those positions.
Eagles' fans have a lot to watch next season. They will have an exciting offense and a strong defense. The Eagles are playing in a tough division so it won't be easy to get very far in the playoffs. If Michael Vick is even 50% of what he was two years ago that will be a good addition to the team. With all the talent and a great coach in Andy Ried, I predict the Eagles will make it to the second round of the playoffs. And that is a great year.
