Is recess an important part of learning?
Recess is a time for students to play or run around outside.
It is an important part of learning because it gives children a break from working hard all day. When a child works to hard or for to long they may get bored or get tired of sitting in the same spot for hours. Having a break "Recess" gives them a chance to get up and stretch their legs. It also gives them a chance to give their minds a break and stop focusing on learning for a few minutes.
At the same time recess can be very educational. It gives opportunites to be socialable and meet new friends. This is also a time for younger children to let their imagination wonder and learn through playing. They can learn things about the outdoors when playing outside on the playground. They also learn teamwork while playing games such as basketball, kickball, or racing. It also lets them, the kids, have a chance to get their stored up energy out by running around outside. Some schools have a system to let some of the older kids become patrols. This is a good learning process because the students who are the patrols learn leadership skills, as well as observation skills.
When children are kept inside for to long and have to sit still they become excited and can not sit still. Having a recess lets them be more attentive in class for longer periods. It also gives the students to talk to each other so they may not talk as much in class.
Recess can also be a bad problem at times because having a recess takes a chance of kids getting hurt while playing. It also means that the school and teachers have to find people usually teachers volunteer, to watch the kids during this break. It can also be bad because it could get the kids to worked up if they do not get all their energy out.
Recess is normally held before or after the childrens lunch period. Which is alos another reason to have recess. Children get hyper or recieve more energy after eating so having recess allows them to use up the energy.
It also gives the teachers a break. It gives them time to eat and focus on something else rather than teaching for a few minutes. This also helps them to plan for the rest of the day. And talk together about any problems they may have with students.
