Changing your college Major
When you start college it is easy to have an idea of what you think you want to study or do with your life. Once you have been in college for a little while though it is then that you may realize that your dreams and goals don't fit with the major you have chosen, or that you simply hate the major you chose. It is not too late to change and switch to something you love and will enjoy studying and applying in life after school.
If you aren't sure when you start school what you want to study it is okay to not make the decision right away. Take a variety of classes so you can figure out what you are most interested in, and what you love. Also talk to you professors who have been through the process and can offer some really good insight.
Before you make the decision to change your major try to make sure that you are certain that is what you want to do. Go and talk to the professors that teach classes in that major and find out how much work is required to complete that major and if extra time in school will be needed. Also make sure that you like those teachers and the subject and that you will really enjoy those classes. If you are changing your major to get started in a specific career make sure that is the right career for you. If you can job shadow someone in that field or get a summer internship to make sure that is what you want to do. Also talk to other students in that major and see what they have to say about the classes and the major.
After you have listened to what everyone has to say (including your parents) make the decision for yourself. It is your life and you have to live it so make sure that you are happy with whatever decision you are making. If you want to major in something that your parents don't support try to spend some time showing them why that major is right for you and what you can with that major after college. If you want to major in something but aren't sure what jobs will be available after college then you should talk to your professors about what you can do with your major and also figure out what kind of job you want after school.
Whatever you choose to do make sure you do it for yourself and do what will make you happy.
