Brett, I must say, I never knew purple would look so good on you. You wear it well. Some are seeing red since they are so accustomed to seeing you in, and feel the only color you should wear for eternity, is green. As long as you are on the field and I can watch your work, the jersey color is of little consequence.

As a football fan, I understand the mentality. Fans adore their favorite teams and put the players of that team in a special place. During the bad times, we yell encouragement and support. During the triumphs, the fans are there screaming and cheering as if we personally participated in every play on the field. We are upset when we lose good players we have come to expect to march onto our home field every Sunday during the fall and winter. We clap when the new guy proves he was a good choice.

Green Bay Packer fans are upset to say the least. Favre has been a member of four teams in his careers, the Falcons prior to the Packers, the Jets after his first retirement, and, the team which has seemingly alienated his Green Bay Packer fan base for completely, the Packers arch rivals, the Minnesota Vikings.

If Brett Favre can still do his job, and do it well, leaving retirement to toss the pigskin one more time should not be causing the controversy and uproar it is. Football players are hired to do a job just like any other employee and if one company no longer has a place for an employee, but another does, so be it.

The situation is very simple. Brett Favre feels his arm still has life in it. The Vikings need someone with ability in the quarterback position. Match! Green Bay Packer fans are going to feel slighted seeing their quarterback playing for the enemy, but football players change teams all the time. Football is entertainment for the fans, but to the players, coaches, and owners, it is a business. Favre sought a job and a company hired him. Before he went to the Jets, Favre spoke of his desire to return to the Packers, who were then grooming Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback. Green Bay moved into the next chapter and so did Favre. Team colors are not as important as the skill of the player wearing them, and when a player is as talented as Favre, just giving his fans the opportunity to see him do what he does best, regardless of where of for whom, is a good enough reason to give it one more go.
