Out of the plethora of techniques used to fight drug addiction, many of them do not succeed for very long. While most professionals tackle the drug specifically, and the use of it, there are usually details left behind that could contribute to the drug use. Family life and sociological elements will play a huge role in the development of a child's brain, and drugs may be taken in attempt to compensate for stressful circumstances. While many addiction specialists use threats and other useless tactics, many addicts end up back on the street, or in a full blown addiction months after interventions. The bottom line is that there is need for a change in this system, and that many people are being left behind.
A drug addict is usually a child that has not grown up; the problems in their life have been repressed in their memory causing undesirable anguish and contempt. Although it is clear that their drug of choice is harmful physically, the use of the drug is a clear indicator that they have serious issues in their life, and haven't dealt with them. In order to deal with a drug addict who is most likely in a feeble mental state, and has undergone intense emotional distress, the person with the addiction must be allowed to speak their mind. Instead of being threatened to be kicked out of their home, an addict should have time to rehabilitate and have stress free time. In many hospital type institutions, patients are being forced to live in an uncomfortable environment after going cold turkey.
Many experts tend to look at the high school life of drug addicts, and look for the root of drug abuse in these years. In many instances, marijuana is blamed as a gateway drug, instead of looking at the facts at hand such as drug abuse within their family, or the glamourization of drugs in media, and other sources. Although marijuana is a drug, it must be taken into account that the person who uses drugs on a constant basis is not doing this for the fun of it; they are actually using the drug to cope with mental ailments and difficulties that cause them to be depressed. Self medication using marijuana can be harmful if used for prolonged periods of time with no exercise or other form of stimulation, yet so can any other harmful drug on the pharmaceutical market. The fact of the matter is that the drug, per se, is not the problem, and through support from the person's family, rather than discipline and scolding, the drug problem can easily be resolved.
