Whirlwinds
Like whirlwinds on the Kansas plain
emotions are swiftly swirling;
my feelings tossed like tumbleweeds,
bashing into barbed-wire fences.
A twister came twirling, whirring
like whirlwinds on the Kansas plain;
'twas a tornado, day after day,
spinning words of poetic grace.
Blue skies faded to yellow dusk;
I listened for her voice to echo
like whirlwinds on the Kansas plain
But all was quiet, she was gone.
Of mornings, when the sun rises
over the hills of Tennessee,
I wait, knowing she will come back
like whirlwinds on the Kansas plain.
