Poetry: Aging

When you look at me what do you really see?
Just an old person you do not really see me

Yes I have wrinkles am arched over and walk with a stick
Yes my hair is grey I have lost a few teeth but what you think?

That I have no feeling, unimportant just waiting to die?
People just act as if we are invisible tell me why?

I was young once with family and friends
I had a good job, social life and people on whom I could depend

But when you get old it's as if you no longer exist
You find you are no longer on anyone's invitations lists

People no longer seem to care
They treat you as if is you are a burden they have bare

Getting old on your own is hard enough an can be a very lonely time
Without people treating you like out of site is out of mind

I often spend time in the park on my own
People do not realize how awful it is feel and be alone

Sitting night after night in an empty home
No one longer visits or rings your phone

Next time you see an old person think of it this way

We are all destined to get old and this may be you one day
