Political commentary: Joe Biden the forgotten man in Obama's administration

by Gloria Edmonson Nelson

Created on: August 24, 2009

Joe Biden, Vice-President, has not been forgotten. Because he is the Advisor to President Obama; he was not hired to be at the forefront but to assist him. That is what he is doing.

According to what we read and see in the media; he is doing a fine job. He has traveled to four countries internationally: Germany, Belgium, Costa Rica, and Chile; as well as over 30 cities.

As President of the Senate, he oversees procedural matters and reports that information back to the President.

He was also instrumental in selecting the nomination of Judge Sotomayer.

He meets with governors and mayors, as well as leaders of foreign countries. He just recently met with Heads of Afghanistan and Pakistan. This information is then coordinated with the President and Secretary of State, Hilliary Clinton.

Vice-President Biden was an excellent choice for The President because he is very approachable with an open personality. You have seen him show this on many occasions with his own family. In fact, when his son went off to Iraq, he publicly hugged and kissed him.

Joe Biden has over 30 years of political experience that he can share with The President, The Senate, The Secretary of State, and the entire world. In fact, he has weekly meetings with the Secretary of State.

He is also working with Mexico on a solution to the swine flu epidemic which is predicted to erupt in the United States and other countries.

Vice-President Biden also had an impact on the passing of the stimulus bill and its success. He questioned those Governors who refused to accept this package when unemployment was at an all-time high. For example, the Governors of Louisiana and Alaska refused the stimulus; however, Alaska eventually accepted it.

He is truly a survivor; his first wife and daughter were killed in an automobile accident. He underwent two brain aneurysms and frequently shares his medical condition because they thought he would not survive. As a result, he has been truly a support to Senator Ted Kennedy who has a brain tumor.

Vice-President Biden has worked avidly on The President's health care bill. Together they are proposing more funding for cancer research as well as to end discrimination for cancer patients trying to receive assistance.

Vice-President Biden is truly an asset to The President because they have the same type of people-skills. They are not secretive, both are family-oriented. This is an asset to the government because the world will be better because of this combination.
