Global warming: Is it as bad as it's made out to be?

Climate Change Beware the Hype !

As a teenager in 1976 I wrote an essay that mentiioned the greenhouse effect and I have watched with a strange mixture of amazement, trepidation and satisfactionn that at long last the damage that man is doing to the climate is finally being treated seriously!

Nevertheless is all as it seems? Are the politicians really taking climate change seriously at long last? Is it all hot air or are there alternative reasons for them to be seen to be taking serioiusly the threat posed by our failure to curb our pollution and waste?

Fact
Climate change is real it is a fact but what causes it is still up for debate. Yes it may be a cycle that happens and man can do little or nothing about it but at the same time we may be actually making it worse through damaging the ozone layer and creating greenhouse gases. The answers are all hypotheses at present but they should be taken seriously for the potential destructive forces that are being unleashed and which may continue to do so.

That said are politicians merely jumping on the band wagon becaue they want to force nuclear power on us which in itself could pose greater problems than climate change itself? Or t=do they just see it as more ways to tax us by taxing us to go greener?

Why am I so sceptical? I arrived in London 1980 and Docklands was just at the planning stages. In the late 90s I did some work in Docklands and walked around marvelling at all the construction that was going on. It is still going on today?
Business giants have left the City or Fleet Street or the West End and moved to monoliths in places like Canary Wharf. Luxury penthouses continue to be built alongside the Thames? Now that we know of the possible dangers of rising water levels and have done for several years why are these business giants being so careless with their money and their investments - are they really being careless or do they know something we do not? Can the threat of Docklands and London flooding be such a threat when they are rushing into what would be the front line flood plains? Something is not right so I remain a sceptic. if anybody has any answers to this conundrum then Id be glad to hear them?
