A Shoulder to Cry on
Alone and scared,
a teenage girl.
Eye liner and mascara running,
because the tears are flowing
uncontrollably from her eyes.
Her parents are divorcing,
her friends are gone,
her boyfriend long from where
he needs to be.
She just found out,
she's pregnant.
She has no money,
no one to lean on,
no shoulder to cry on.
Her mom is always busy;
the same with her father.
Busy,
too busy for their own daughter.
Too busy,
to think about their soon to be grandchild.
Too busy,
To try and take a break.
And she sees someone walking.
Walking along beside the bushes.
She tries to hide her eyes
as he sees her,
and walks over.
She's supposed to be strong.
She's not supposed to cry.
But he asks,
and asks,
and asks.
She finally realizes,
that she doesn't have to be strong-
not all of the time.
Everyone cries,
sometime or another.
And slowly he coaxes her,
to reveal all of her secrets.
And she does.
She is comfortable talking to him,
and she doesn't even know his name.
They talk.
And talk.
And talk.
Until there's nothing left to say.
And temporarily,
She had a shoulder to cry on.
Until he leaves too.

Here's my shoulder to cry on when in need
Tuck yourself safely underneath my wing
Lean on me and I'll try to understand
And
Mary winces from the force of a contemptuous stare
Privileged eyes neither compassionate nor aware
No one sees the devastation
A shoulder to cry on is what I will offer you...forever
You live far away, our paths no longer cross, however, you know that
I will give you a shoulder to cry on,
A shoulder that's firm to your touch,
A friend you can love and rely on,
When everything's
