Poetry: Walking away

by Catherine Poindexter

Created on: August 23, 2009   Last Updated: August 25, 2009

I knew that we were over.

I saw it coming from a mile away.

And though you didn't ask me to go;

There was no reason for me to stay.

Things have been bad for a very long time now.

And though I tried to make you happy, I obviously didn't know how.

There are no hard feelings sprouting and taking root in my heart.

We both have to move on and each embrace a fresh new start.

You will be greatly missed. The sadness will linger for a long while.

But for many years to come, I will think of us and smile.
