When God tells us in his word, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me", he is assuring us that by our faith and his grace, that he is at our side guiding and protecting our steps, if we allow him to lead us. This scripture is lifting us up in reminding us that through our troubles, our struggles, losses, and hardships filled with disappointments, that God is our very source of strength to get us through these difficult times.
God confirms he will give us the peace and strength we need through our times of long-suffering. Because if we make it through the long-suffering, which is pleasing to God, then from his promise, he assures us in Isaiah 40:31, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint". But it is solely our responsibility that by our own faith we hold on to God's promises, because no one else can do that for us. And if a person believes that someone else can carry their faith to do what God has called them to do, no matter what it is, it will never happen. Even God tells us in his word that it is impossible to please God without faith.
When God calls us to do a certain duty for him, most of the time people are afraid from their own lack and confidence. As with Moses who argued with God after he told Moses to go into Egypt and speak. Moses fought the idea because he had a speech impairment. But Gods mercy towards Moses, he told him to place his hand in his coat, then told Moses to remove his hand from the coat. Moses saw his hand was the hand of a cripple. Then God instructed him to put his hand back into his coat, then remove it once more, and Moses saw his hand was restored.
What God did for Moses was his way of reassuring Moses that he could do what God had told him to do, and that God would be there with him every step of the way. When we feel as Moses did from our own self doubts, we should remember Isaiah 41:10, "Fear not; for I am with thee: be not dismay; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness". Only confirming you can't lose if God is the backbone behind your source of strength.
