Yes we all have them; neighbors. Good, bad or indifferent they all make life interesting. There are the neighbors who when your one neighbor's tree falls across onto your driveway destroying your rose garden comes over to cut up the tree so that you can get into your driveway. By the way the neighbor whose tree fell came over into the yard without permission to claim the firewood, but did not offer any of the firewood to you or your helpful neighbor and of course did not offer any compensation for the roses or parts of the yard that were destroyed by their dead tree that they never took care of in the first place.

But the most interesting neighbors are the ones who proclaim them selves to be the watchdogs of the neighborhood keeping tabs on the comings and goings of others and who is allowed in the neighborhood. A husband and wife in one neighborhood appointed themselves in that role with interesting results.

The wife decided to take upon herself to be the sentry of who was allowed in the neighborhood. All of the streets in the neighborhood were public roads, but she decided to determine who was allowed to drive in her neighborhood to visit her neighbors. Keep in mind that this particular neighborhood had over 500 homes. She would follow unfamiliar cars towards their destination and then ask them to pull over and query them about their reasons for driving on her neighborhood streets. Of course word of this behavior got back to the people living in her neighborhood and she was asked to stop this activity. And of course she was offended after all she was only trying to keep the riff raft out of the neighborhood. This kind of stuff cannot be made up.

The husband was just as bad in his different self appointed role as neighborhood sentry. He would get in his vehicle and follow cars in the neighborhood to ascertain their proper speed. The speed limit in the entire neighborhood was 25 mph. If he determined that a neighbor was going over the speed limit then he would write a citation and leave it in the offending neighbor's front door as a warning. Most neighbors threw the citations away, but one confronted him about the citation of going 27 mph in a 25 mph speed zone. And the husband was furious when questioned as to how he knew the speed if he was not going that same speed himself and if he had his car calibrated to be accurate in the first place. And as to why he appointed himself in this role without the permission of the remainder of the neighborhood.

Be careful if any or your children make friends with children in this neighborhood or you will be watched. This simply goes to show that some people are in dire need of hobbies and have way too much time on their hands. If only the rest of us had that much time to be that bored.
