What to do when coloring your hair blonde turns it orange

How many women can count the times they've tried dying their hair at home and it's come out all wrong? Personally, I'd like to keep that number to myself, but I have been there. I dye my hair rather frequently, and I've picked up quite a few expert tips along the way. If you've suddenly found yourself with orange or brassy hair instead of that coveted, gorgeous blond, then you need some help, and fast.

There are a number of options to get rid of the orange, depending on what condition your hair is in, and what color you want your hair to be. If your hair is breaking, or severely damaged in any way, than stop what your doing and seek out the advice of a professional. However, if the condition of your hair is fine and it's just the color that needs to be corrected, you should be able to fix it at home, for less than $15.

If your wanting ultra-light blond results, than you need a box of bleach. Bleaching is the easiest way to get optimum lightening, at-home. The best place to pick up bleach is a beauty supply store. Beauty supply stores have many varieties to choose from, and the sales associate can help you select the right bleach for your needs. After the bleach, your going to need to put color back on your hair, as bleach works by pulling all the color out of your hair. At this point in the process you should be able to select any shade of blond that you want, and get the correct results. Most importantly, always deep condition your hair after any chemical process, especially bleaching.

If your hair is close to the color you wanted, but has some orange or brassiness to it, fixing it should be very simple. Most of us seem to think that we can pick up a box of hair color at the drugstore, and get the color on the box. Unfortunately for most of us this isn't true. The easiest way to get rid of orange or brassy tones is to pick up a bottle of toner at your local beauty supply store. They make toner for almost every shade of blond, and it works by adding the right undertones to your hair without taking any color from it. The best thing to do is ask the sales associate which shade of toner is right for what you want.

The easiest way to avoid this problem all together is to take a look at what color your hair is naturally and what color it is currently. If either of those colors has red in it, then you need a blond dye with purple undertones, which is commonly referred to as ash. Hair colors with ash in them, work to get rid of orange and brassy undertones while lightening your hair at the same time.

If you are unable to correct the problem yourself, or afraid to do anything else to your hair, then you are going to have to love orange, or go to a stylist.
