College: How to excel in your academic life

Every college student wants to do well in their classes. Students often enter a classroom on the first day of classes without having a clue as to what to expect. This something they will find out as soon as class begins. Professors will take the time to explain what will be taught for the semester, what the expectations are, and what the requirements are. Students who pay close attention will get a better sense of what the teacher is going to expect, even when those expectations aren't always stated clearly.

Excelling in the academic life requires motivation and dedication on the part of the students. It also requires a commitment to discipline and a desire to excel. That being said, it can be done. Here are some suggestions that can help any student learn to excel.

*Attend all of your classes -

Class attendance is the first step towards a successful college career. By going to class, you will always know what's going on, when tests are scheduled and what the professor intends to put on those tests. Missing classes can mean that you'll miss crucial information that may be on a test.

It will help you pick out the important points from class lectures because those points may stand out in your reading. Keeping up with the reading assignments will also help you do well on your tests or major exams.

*Take good notes -

Note taking is also crucial. It helps you sift through the information in a lecture. It's important that you pay close attention at all times during a lecture. If your mind wanders off, even if only for a second, you can miss something very important, and that important tidbit may have an important bearing on what follows in the lecture.

Use colors, flags or a highlighter to indicate things that are most important. By marking them in your notes, you will know exactly what is important enough to spend some extra time on when preparing for a test.

*Proper time management and planning -

College students have so many different things to juggle in a semester. They have several different classes, they may have a job, they may be involved in student government or a social or academic club. Learning how to make the most of one's time is probably the single most important factor for determining the success of a semester.

Plan your time in such a way that you don't find yourself having to read an entire month's
