Let me prepare myself. I will go as far back as my brain permits. "I Never Loved A Man' by the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. The song was powerful. This had to be something she truly experienced. You heard the pain. You heard regret. You heard her emotions in every line of the song. Seriously. Also "My Girl" by the Temptations. This was a very beautiful song. It actually is very romantic. I imagine the young girls of that era felt like fainting if a boyfriend sang it to them.
Marvin Gaye said, "I Heard It Through The Grapevine." How sad to hear that the person you love is about to leave you. Not only that, but they are leaving you for someone from their past. It's enough to make you lose your mind. However, the grapevine is not a very reliable source. The late and great Michael Jackson touched hearts. When the Jackson Five did "Who's Loving You", it was very cute. Michael talks about a little girl he plays with at the sandbox. He gave her his cookies. Maybe she was a trollop in the making. Who knows? Also, there was "I'll Be There". Michael sang those songs like he really experienced these events. Truly, he was talented.
This is going to take entirely too long if I do more than a few songs from each decade. Let's hop on over to the 80's. Chaka Khan did "Ain't Nobody" and "I Feel For You". She can sing. Tina Turner sang "What's Love Got To Do With It?" We all can relate, to some extent. She had a fierce hairstyle in that video. It inspired me to do crazy things with my hair. Speaking of crazy hair, Patti LaBelle obviously got a "New Attitude". She probably inspired alot of women to buy a new wardrobe, get a new job, and get a new man. There was this R&B group called The Jets. They did a song entitled " You Got it All Over Him". If you have never heard it, you need to hear it. It is a beautiful ballad about the new love who makes you forget the old love. Luther Vandross did "Here & Now" and "Stop to Love". Stop to love is for the women who are too busy to spend time with their significant other.
Let's go to the 90's. Mariah Carey did "Vision of Love". Whitney Houston did "All the Man That I Need". Milli Vanilli did... Nevermind. New Kids on the Block were pre- boy band era. "Please Don't Go Girl" sounds like early New Edition. New Edition did "If it Isn't Love". They did alot of spinning in that video. It will make you dizzy. Mary j. Blige came with "You Remind Me" and "Real Love". R. Kelly came with the Public Announcement singing "Vibe" and "Slow Dance". My favorite group of the 90's was Hi-Five. They sang a song called "The Kissing Game". Jon.B. did "They Don't Know". That song rocks! Aaliyah did a remake of "At Your Best (You Are Love)" by the Isley Brothers.
Time for this century. Jagged Edge is a force to be reckoned with. They did a song entitled "Promise". Omarion did "Icebox". Mario did "Let Me Love You". Angie Stone did "No More Rain". Genuwine did "Changes." Destiny's Child did "Cater 2 U". The list is too long to continue. The amount of true hits is dwindling. Music is not like it used to be.
