Elton John, R.E.M, Dave Matthews and Eric Clapton have all written songs about someone with blue eyes that stole their hearts, and as the old saying goes, "if you've got 'em, flaunt 'em".
Since blue eyes are already bright and vibrant, it doesn't take much to really make them pop. When choosing eye makeup, many women end up choosing colors that match their outfit or their eyes. While it's fun to experiment with trendy shades, you should have some everyday go-to hues that will make your eye color pop.
To enhance the beauty of blue eyes, the experts agree that choosing shades that are opposite from blue on the color wheel will really cause your eye color to stand out. This means choosing colors from the brown family such as chocolate, bronze, gold, taupe, and even tangerine and orange based shades to add some punch.
This is not to say that a blue-eyed woman should stay away from other colors entirely. I have seen quite a few that have looked stunning in smoky, navy blue or violet eye makeup on occasion, especially for evening. In fact, those with blue eyes can get away with wearing most colors because they are more agreeable to different shades than brown or green eyes are.
For an everyday look to make your blue eyes stand out, start first with an eyeshadow primer. This locks the eyeshadow in place and prevents the oils in your skin from causing makeup to fade or run. This will ensure that your eyeshadow and liner stay put all day, until you take it off.
Next, sweep a medium bronze or taupe shadow all over the lid from the lash line up to the brow bone with an eyeshadow brush. Then add a deeper shade such as chocolate into the crease (fold of the eyelid) with emphasis on the outer corner. Use a very light, shimmery gold shade on the brow bone to highlight and really open up the eye area. Next, rim the upper lash line with a chocolate brown pencil, winging it out a little at the outer corner to make eyes appear larger. The last step is to add mascara, which does not need to be brown, unless your lashes are light. If your lashes are black, brown mascara will not show up, so black mascara can be used.
For a smoky evening look, follow the same steps, but you can also add eyeliner to the lower lash line and smudge a little of the bronze shadow over it with a slanted eyeshadow brush. You can also add mascara to the lower lashes as well to really open up the eyes.
If you're feeling bold, you can repeat these steps substituting orange or tangerine shades for the brown, which will add a little punch to your look.
Again, you should always have fun and experiment with color, but if you have blue eyes. using colors in the brown family will really make the color of your eyes pop and gives you a look that you can be sure will always look gorgeous, day or night.
