Website reviews: Joomlaxe.com

Joomlaxe.com is a site that offers articles, a small ask and answer forum, and a few free templates for the Joomla 1.5 open source engine. On the home page, the site owner assures users that these templates are made with quality in mind, are XHTML transitional valid, have a collapsible module position, support 7 different browsers, and free (as long as users follow the terms of use).

The articles on Joomlaxe.com cover a wide range of topics concerning Joomla. These topics can be specific, such as whether or not people should use MySQL or MySQLi for their Joomla site. Another example is the article that argues for a particular Firefox addon, in order to run Joomla well. Of course the articles can also be general, covering such things as the upcoming and anticipated Joomla 1.6. There are three pages of articles currently, and each article has a lot of information (sometimes with screen shots). While the introductions can be a bit odd (it is almost like the author posts their assignment), the rest of the article seems fine for a Joomla site.

The "ask and answer" forum of Joomlaxe.com is helpful, but strange. What I mean is, the title of each question makes sense, but the actual question itself is sometimes mind-bogglingly confusing. For instance, one user asked a simple question, "Hosting multi-user blog site with Joomla?" yet their descriptive question was more than confusing: "I poverty to attain a website that crapper patron multi-user blogs..." Still, it seems that most people answer the question based on the title, and the answers make plenty of sense.

The free templates on Joomlaxe.com are great. There are currently four to choose from, and at least one of them has been converted into Joomla from a CSS design point. Clicking on a template gives a lot of information: a brief description (with some grammar flaws), followed by the features (such as tableless design or W3C transitional) and the compatibility of the template. One nice thing about these templates is in the fact that Joomlaxe.com provides a screenshot of the module position, or how the template looks from a design point of view.

In addition, users can access a live demo, or simply download the template. Downloading the template takes users to a sort of download center, where all of the site's templates are available. In order to download the template, users must agree to a license which displays the terms of use. Users must keep the footer link that goes back to Joomlaxe.com, in order to give credit where credit is due.

Overall, this is a good website for Joomla resources. While there are few templates, the ones available are well designed. Moreover, the articles and "ask and answer" forum more than compensate.
