Best Nintendo 64 games ever created

by Stacey Pace

We still have an N64, although it isn't the original one we had back in the day. About 10 years ago we started playing Zelda Ocarina of Time after a friend was raving about it and it sparked our interest in buying N64 games again.

We were lucky enough to get one of those tangerine coloured consoles about 6 years ago and this really pushed us on further as we'd had our eye on one when they first came out. It was one of those chance finds really, we got it from our local market and it was real a bargain.

We gave my younger brother an N64 as a present around the same time. He'd enjoyed playing on our games when he was very young so we started buying him classic N64 games too. It's a real blast from the past to get the same titles again and find that they're still quite challenging despite being older and having better co-ordination.

Of course with most things that come into the retro category they start to have a retro price tag too. We were lucky enough to pick up a relatively cheap copy of Mario Tennis for him as a gift but most of the official first party software titles attract a price between 20-30. Over the years we've bought so much for our N64 but here are just 5 of the best Nintendo 64 games ever created in my opinion:

1) Zelda Ocarina of Time - Still top of a lot of peoples lists and the catalyst for our collection. A game that inspired a range of emotions as it was both cute and eerie at the same time. It's also a game that I could go back to and play again as my love for this game isn't just born of nostalgia. It still looks good even after all these years and the music still has that haunting appeal. One for the collection that you can play over the holidays.

2) The New Tetris - Being a fan of the original GameBoy Tetris I've played almost every Tetris sequel or clone in an attempt to recreate that vibe. None of them even come close to the addiction that the original inspired. This game has somehow managed to take the essence of the simple block puzzle and give it an extra dimension without taking anything away from it. You play the original game but your points go towards unlocking the 7 Wonders of the World. If you build a square that's 4x4 using different shapes it will turn silver and you get a huge bonus when you clear these 4 rows. Likewise if you build the same 4x4 square with the same shape it will turn gold and you get an even bigger bonus. This is a great game for a quick burst or a long 2 player battle and is very
