Poetry: A moment

by Richard Ellis

Created on: August 21, 2009

A moment is but a sliver of time,
Indefinite, yet its life is brief,
Only a point in one's own timeline,
Stealing away like a silent thief.

Wasted moments are like water drops,
Poured out on hot, dry desert sand,
Benefiting nothing and no one at all,
Not even that parched, thirsty land.

We go through life wasting our moments,
Never giving them a second thought,
Till one day we run out of time,
And wish we had used them as we ought.

But all those little slivers of time,
Which we unthinkingly throw away,
Can never be recovered by us,
Yet, we will want them back some day.

Idle moments are sometimes well spent,
For we oft need to get away and rest,
But guard those precious points of time,
Used with wisdom your time will be blessed.
