Poetry: Storytime

Coming of Age

An ant roamed through
the kitchen he tugged and
pushed not having another ant
to pitch in.

Only slowing when
he found a speck
he wasn't worried if
it were a crumb
he couldn't leave it
that would be dumb.

Mom and Dad were
waiting at the hill for
their little rookie
to bring a sweet morsel
of cake or cookie.

He must do his part
and earn his keep
knowing his journey
would be steep.

He only stopped to rest
once or twice
because he was sent
to prove his ability to
suffice.

When he reached his
home he shoved and
pushed one last time
up the hill and down
the hole.

A feast was had by all
and the younger ant felt
mighty tall.
