NBA team profile: Toronto Raptors

by Vernon Nava

Created on: August 21, 2009

Man, Bryan Colangelo should be put into the Hall of Fame soon, because he's made such an artistry piece in Toronto. With nine new players with the club, it's hard to believe that BC likes losing. After being 33-49 last season, BC wanted change. Not the Obama change which is long term, BC wanted it now.

And that's just what he did.

I'm going to mention all nine new players and say what they bring to the Raps. However, before I begin, let's look at what the Raptors have added. Obviously, they were really soft and weak in rebounding, defense and athleticism. I think BC did a good job of clearing that up. Now we have added shooting, rebounding, dirty inside player's, rebounders, decent defenders and tons of athleticism.

1. DeMar DeRozan

He was obtained in the 09 NBA Draft, 9th Overall. So what does this kid bring? A raw talent, that still has to be proven. People say he's the Raps updated and more humble version of Vince Carter. DeMar can bring tons of athleticism and defense to the team. His offensive skills should be a little polished, and his basketball IQ is still unknown, but other than that his potential is off the charts. Let's not judge first, but by the looks of it, he could a great player if he puts in the time to practice on his weaknesses.

2. Reggie Evans

Remember when Charles Oakley played for the Toronto Raptors for a few seasons? Yes, he was a great asset to our team. Why? Because he was our dirty player, who would grab any ball he sees, which creates lots of extra opportunities on both ends. Well, we can hopefully relive those moments with Mr. Evans. This man is a veteran dirty player, who rebounds quite remarkably. Some of his defensive skills are weak and his offense is very limited, but those can be overlooked because BC covered those areas.

3. Hedo Turkoglu

Yeah, Hedo is in Toronto. All the Torontonians thought Oregon would get the headline, "Hedo signs contract with Blazers". But it never happened, because Toronto got Hedo. What does Hedo bring? Leadership. He can show you on the court or vocally how to win ball games, and when it comes down to crunch time, you know he'll be with the ball. Hedo can also bring toughness and decent defense when it's needed. A great piece added to the Raptors. Hopefully he can deliver.

4. Antoine Wright

Not a great player, but not a bad player either. What does this guy bring? Well, this man brings tons of defense and toughness to the team, something we lacked, especially in the wing positions. He's
