Who doesn't love their dog? But for those people who are especially loving of their dogs, who treat their dog as if it were their own child, a dog can be more than just a best friend - it truly becomes a part of the family. So, when gift-giving time comes, what kind of gifts are appropriate for dog lovers? The following list may help conjure up some great gift ideas:
1. Gift card
Find your local favorite pet supplies store (or dog specialty store) and purchase a gift card. The following stores may be useful to think about: pet supplies stores, such as Petsmart or Petco; your local pet grooming shop; and any specialty pet supplies stores near you. Purchasing a gift card for grooming is a really fun idea, too. Most "true" dog lovers will want their dogs to be beautifully groomed, and gift card can help ease the cost of a grooming session. Even a $25 gift card is a superb idea.
2. Collar
A personalized collar that really captures your friend's dog's personality is a fun and inexpensive gift idea. If your friend's dog is female, maybe you could get a female-oriented collar that shows off the dog's looks. For instance, a white dog could benefit with any color collar, but a female black dog would especially look good in a nice dark blue collar with rhinestones.
3. Toys
Dog toys can make your friend's dog really happy. Make sure that you know your friend's dog's personality very well before you purchase any toys that make sound. For example, some dogs are neurotic when they hear certain sounds. They can become obsessed with those sounds, making them run around in circles or hide from people. Always tell your friend your intentions, and give the gift to your friend first. He/She will be able to judge its effect on his/her dog.
4. Dog treat jar
Dog lovers will love having a dog treat jar around. You can find these ceramic jars with paw prints or words written on them (more commonly "Dogs Rule" or "Man's Best Friend"). These jars are usually inexpensive and can last quite a long time. Place dog treats in them before you give the gift, so that your friend doesn't have the hassle of filling it him/herself.
Though you can give gifts to your dog lover, usually giving a gift for the dog lover's dog is a better idea. Not only will your dog lover be happy that his/her dog is happy, but he/she will thank you for making his/her life a little easier.
