A well-organized yard sale will attract more customers and earn better profit than one that is haphazard. Arrange items in logical order, leave enough walking room, and make sure to have adequate table or ground covering space so items are not jumbled too closely together. The following tips will ensure a successful and well-organized yard sale.
Put like items together on tables or ground coverings. Think about a yard sale as if it were a department store. In department stores, all items that work together are placed in one section. Offer yard sale customers the same courtesy. For instance, put all clothes together on a blanket so people can look through each size and style of clothing at one time, without having to walk all over the sale. The same goes for other items. All dishware should be set with any kitchen furniture for sale, and books should be alongside bookshelves, and so forth.
Place tables in straight rows, and if it is necessary to make a turn, keep the corner sharp. This allows easier browsing for customers. Everything is within easy reach and people know where to go and not to go. This will not only benefit customers but will also keep people from looking through personal items that are not for sale.
Leave enough space between items on tables for people to pick them up and sit them back down without knocking something off the table. For items on ground coverings, make sure there is walking room between sets of items. People will not be able to reach items in the middle of a blanket on the ground, so it is necessary to leave a walking trail so all items are accessible.
Set large furniture pieces that aren't related to other items in front at yard sales. Furniture pieces draw customers in, so should be easily visible from the street. Other items that should be placed front and center are children's toys such as cooking sets, bicycles, and battery operated riding vehicles. Parents are always looking for good deals on toys for their children, so putting them out front will lead to more sales.
Set the yard sale up in a way that is pleasing to the eye and functional. Put items together that you yourself would expect to find together, make it easy for people to get around and see all the merchandise, and put top selling items front and center to achieve a well-organized and profitable yard sale.
