IN TRYING TIMES
When I woke up this morning
the day was looking fine
and I thought about my blessings
and Lord, had you on my mind.
I have food, clothes and shelter,
I have family and friends,
I've had good times, but there are struggles
that never seem to end.
My sunny morning soon grew cloudy
and it wasn't long however when
the world began to crowd in
and took a different shape.
I tried blaming it on the water
or maybe something that I ate
as I began to feel disgruntled,
I don't like life this way
and though I'm blest the world is dark
even though I try to keep the faith and pray.
I don't like all this lying and the cheating,
Lord, I don't like what's going on;
all this sorrow, sickness, bickering and fighting
going on from dawn to dawn
and it's not getting any better,
Lord, seems it just gets worse
and when I see the way folks suffer,
Lord, it really hurts.
Lord, I'm angry, I'm frustrated
I feel like I'm bouncing off the wall,
I'm left wanting to do anything about it,
Lord, I just don't understand it all.
I feel helpless to help others
when I can't help me and mine.
Lord, give me the strength to trust and follow
even in these trying times.
Lord, please don't let me falter.
Help me keep my eyes on you,
do your will, Lord, willingly,
do all you would have me do.
Lord, I'm sputtering and complaining,
sort of bending your ear,
aggravated to the hilt
with all that's going on 'round here
but even this, Lord, has its purpose,
You said that it was so,
even warned us this would happen
so that we would know,
and stand guard in our watchtower,
keeping our heart and thoughts in you.
Lord, help me stand fast for your name's sake
in all I say and do.
Help me be a good example.
Help me be a shining light.
Don't let the storm clouds gathering
keep me from doing right.
Lord, thank you for always being near
for all you do and you have done.
Help me live each day with peace
knowing the victory has been won
and nothing is going to happen
that you won't see us through
when we keep our faith and trust,
Oh Lord, dear God, in you.
