Comparing Target and Wal-Mart

by Shane Ostrom

Created on: August 20, 2009

Target and Wal-Mart have been competing in the industrial world for years. Both very popular stores, there are many reasons people think that Target is much better than Wal-Mart. Most employees are paid minimum wage and are discouraged of working full time, so little it makes other companies employees go on strike. Wal-Mart claims to have the lowest prices in town, but they make us pay for the health plan that they give their employees through not only the products, but taxes! Also, only part of the taxes goes toward the health care! A lot goes to the company itself!

Of course Target has bad parts as well, but is not nearly as heard of as Wal-Mart's 'issues'. Target also pays their employees minimum wage but don't discourage full time jobs. Their health benefits are often even harder to qualify and are sometimes even less comprehensive than Wal-Mart's.

But even though Wal-Mart and Target aren't the best businesses for the economy, they both have high quality items for good prices. If you're buying from either one of these corporations, there is nothing excessively bad but isn't necessarily helping the already bad economy, but you sure are getting a heck of a deal! Most of the items in other stores like TOYS 'R' US can be found in Target and Wal-Mart, making these stores very convenient.

Target has provided great service and products at great prices, which is why it's hard not to shop there but Wal-Mart has just checked you out, or pointed out that a coupon is expired. In my opinion I think Target is a much, much, much better business than Wal-Mart. Many things that happened to Wal-Mart I believe are not just a rumor such as forcing their already under-paid workers to work over time and such.

I would choose not to shop at these places when not necessary. Why not Costco? There is a small membership fee of fifty dollars a year, but you can save tons and tons of money! It is much better for the economy as well for you can buy huge amounts of items for a small price. They also pay their workers more (sixteen dollars per hour)! I find it as a way to save money by not having to go to the grocery store nearly as much because you buy huge amounts of the items you are buying. Overall I recommend Target if you must, but overall Costco is one of the best companies out there.
