FIRE
I am many things,
And I serve many purposes,
Some find me a foe,
And others a savior.
I can burn a forest to a crisp,
Kill without mercy or retribution,
Consume an entire village,
An bring all which exists to an end.
Yet I bring life,
Destroy all harm in the world,
Provide a new beginning,
Such is the cycle this Earth depends upon.
I bring warmth to those too numb to feel,
Supply light to those too blinded with grief,
I provide company to those too solemn to continue,
And give hope to those who despair.
I reside in the hearts of many,
And flicker in the eyes of some,
Warm the hands of all,
And provide justice upon the wicked.
I dazzle those who gaze into my fiery tongues,
And dance perpetually through sun and moon,
I fear none and all fear me
I am fire.

From ember's sleep I rise and lick

And turn to char,

Sharp orange tendrils flick from
side to side
waves rush through vacant buildings

Each flame is an acrobat
leaping and lapping
lunging and flapping
a tongue of quick red
licking and crackling
tasting and clacking
