I consider myself a fairly smart, level-headed, 29-year-old college graduate. However, I am ashamed to say that I am obsessed with reality television. I pretty much give every new reality television show a two-episode test run before deciding whether or not it's worth watching for the entire season. Luckily for you, I have weeded out the bad ones and will share with you my top seven reality television shows that are worth watching (even if you won't admit it to your loved ones).
- KATHY GRIFFIN: MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST
Before watching this show, I really didn't know much about Kathy Griffin. However, I am now a huge fan, went to see her do stand-up, and wish she was my best friend. While not every episode is life-changing, there are some episodes that have me in hysterics for the entire hour, such as "Maggie's Bucket List," which included Betty White and Don Rickles as guest stars. Besides Kathy herself, the best part of the show is her mother, Maggie, who is the most darling and hilarious person ever. If you've never seen the show, I strongly suggest you give it a shot. It airs on Bravo but just wrapped season five, so you will have to wait a little while for new episodes. But keep your eyes open - repeats are aired fairly often.
Not many television programs could get me to commit to watching three one-hour episodes a week. Big Brother does this with ease, and makes me completely excited for Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays to roll around. The show consists of 13 strangers in one house, where they must remain until either they are evicted or they win. Each week (or sometimes, twice a week), a Head of Household (HOH) is crowned. The HOH nominates two people for eviction. The Veto competition is next, where the nominees have a chance of winning the competition and taking themselves off the chopping block. With the exception of the HOH and the two nominees for eviction, all other housemates vote for who should leave. If a contestant lasts the entire ten weeks and is declared the winner, $500,000 is theirs. Inevitably, controversy and drama ensues, and we get to sit at home at watch. It's glorious. Big Brother typically has one season a year during the summer, and it airs on CBS.
- TOP CHEF
I was doubtful that I would like Top Chef, because, come on, how fun can it be watching people cook? I was wrong. This is a reality television show where you actually have to have some talent to win, rather than just luck and the ability to backstab. There isn't
