Foundations...we must have a secure one before beginning to build upward and outward.
For example to have a successful garden one must begin with good, fertile soil. Or a home builder must choose a location to lay the foundation so to avoid shifting sands that will cause cracks. Or a teacher must teach the basics of addition and subtraction before moving on to more complex math. These foundations are imperative for a lasting success in the garden, or home building or solving complex math problems.
This concept of foundation is true of our spiritual life as well. I believe this is the most important aspect of our relationship with Almighty God and His Son, Jesus Christ. As everything else is built upon our understanding of who God is!
Do we know God to be good?
Do we know God loves us even as sinners?
Do we know God is not like our earthly fathers?
Do we know that God is all we need?
Most if not all of us would answer the above questions with "yes."
Here is the challenge.... Do We Live Like We Believe This?
So many of us claim to know the Truth of God's Word; and we even say we believe it, but the way we live, our choices, our priorities, our response to pain reveals that often times we do not really believe the Truth. "What we believe is revealed, not by what we know or what we say we believe, but by how we actually live."
So often many Christians and non-Christians take their desires, their future and their plans and incorporate God into them. We go about our life as we have planned and we allow God in on some Sundays and maybe even Wednesdays and do a retreat here and there. We reference the Lord in conversation with others, maybe to make ourselves feel better about our choices and maybe to convince others ( and ourselves) of our growing spirituality. All the while we are watering the garden, and building the walls to our houses and solving the financial challenges in front of us. And we chug along feeling as though things are finally going to be better maybe even okay.
What we need to understand is God's desires, His plans, His future, The Truth. We MUST believe and live like we believe God is good, God's Ways and plans are what brings us joy. His unconditional love and forgiveness is sufficient for our terrible sins.
God is and always was and will always be! He is asking us to join His kingdom and incorporate our lives into His Truth. Not the other way around and not just part of the way. He wants us to go all in. To plant our garden on his soil, to build our house
