I had just graduated from college and was looking for a part-time job to supplement my income when a friend invited me to a "skin care class" at her home. I was a bit skeptical, knowing full well that this would somehow be a ploy to sell products that I most likely could not afford. However, in the name of friendship, I went to her home to participate.
To my great surprise, I really enjoyed the skin-care class. My friend introduced several products that were beneficial to my skin type. The products are bit more expensive than your 'run of the mill" drug store brands but the other participants spoke of their affinity for Mary Kay. I appreciated the "low pressure" to buy anything as well because I have heard horror stories of what has happened to other people at these sorts of parties/classes. After some thought, I then decided to become a Consultant, knowing that one gets a wholesale discount on the Mary Kay product orders.
While I have never been the "salesperson" type and honestly did not do much in terms of sales, I enjoyed receiving a discount on the products. I felt that it was money well spent and that after my discount, I was receiving a quality product for little more than I would have paid in a store. I have become a particular fan of the "Timewise" set. The cleanser and moisturizer leaves your skin feeling smooth, soft and supple. I also really like the Microdermabrasion set. Many do not purchase or use it because it's a bit expensive. However, if one takes into account the amount someone may spend to have a microdermabrasion professionally done, the price pales in comparison. Several of my friends really like the Velocity skin care set and use it regularly (this is generally designed for teenagers and young adults). I also have used their foundations, lipsticks and nail polish and really liked them. However, my absolute favorite still comes back to their Skincare line. Perhaps, it's because I have received the best notable results from those products.
Finally, due to time and financial constraints, I eventually became an inactive Consultant. I was told that one has the option to send back the inventory items they have purchased. I had not gone "overboard" but still had some product left from past orders. I had been so pleased with my results that I chose to keep the products and have continued to use them to this day. I was not a "great" Mary Kay Consultant, but I will speak highly of their product!
