Why the Super Mario franchise is popular

Mario is one of the most popular franchises that exist to this day. It is the current mascot for Nintendo. There have been too many games created that it would be hard to simply list them all. It should be presented as specific genres because each would have to be different. There had been the traditional style being the platform style that they do have but sometimes utilized in a 3D world. There is also the racing genre, sports, having RPG games, and having a party genre though that probably isn't the official name.

The biggest factor is the fun factor in the franchise. There have been many different ones created. The adventure or platform Mario games would have to be considered possibly one of the best ever put together. A simple plot was created in that he was needed to rescue the Princess from the evil Bowser who wanted to take over The Mushroom Kingdom. Even prior to that, you could add the early Donkey Kong games making his appearance known rescuing Pauline. It was a hit and a classic.

In terms of evolution in the video game world, Mario made perhaps the greatest transition to the 3D world with the popular Super Mario 64. True, it was a platform game but really it had a bit of a quest to complete and was very much different than the original Super Mario game. This one had more of a stage selection but added that stars were needed to unlock areas and it would vary of course. There was just so much to try to do to complete the game and it made it fun.

When it comes to another series that has worked, the Mario Kart would have to be considered fun if you are into that type of genre. That of course is something that you have to look at from a fair perspective. It was simple in that the object was to simply race to the finish trying to get the best score overall for specific cups. Add the power-ups that got involved and it really just took off making it fun to play.

In fact, he was so popular he appeared in different games. He was used as the referee in the Punch Out games for the NES and even appeared in Tetris just if you win in the ninth level in Game B in the game. There were even Mario cartoons created starting at The Super Mario Bros. Super Show going up to the Super Mario World series. Yes, there was Super Mario All Stars created as a cartoon but it didn't really have any new cartoons whatsoever.

More so, it has to do with the popularity of the games being the face of Nintendo. Had that not happened, it would have never gotten this far in terms of being a huge franchise.
