America's politics is shifting (I am sorry to report) because our youth is smarter than we are! They are not fearful to ask questions that we allowed to go on for years because they feel they have nothing to lose. They will stand up and ask profound questions, they will get on the Internet and do the same, and some youth have even written the President.
People are getting involved in politics at a much younger age, and many are getting involved. They want to make changes in many of the atrocities that the older people are committing. They see the unfairness and the double standards. Even though they are taught to get the best education, to use integrity in their job, etc.; this is not what they are seeing on television, the news circuits, and the Internet. They see the opposite. They see sexual misconduct, child molestation, adultery, theft, drugs, etc., yet we want to hold them accountable to higher standards that they are not seeing!
People are now questioning the two-party system because it seems to be creating more problems than in the past years. There seems to be more confusion, and it seems that people are just taking sides "just because." It does not seem that they have good reason for their beliefs or decision making. Many are saying: "He or she is a democrat, so let us take the opposite view." That is horrific because they make this statement prior to even hearing them out or reading their statements.
For example, Judge Sonia Sotomayor was "grilled," and even though she ended up in the position; some of the senators and others had already made up their minds when her name was announced. She did not have a chance. They berated her, presented tricky questions, etc., however, she was smart enough not to answer the trick questions even when they were rephrased. That is just one example of why there should be one party.
Politicians must be more accountable to their constituents. When they took the oath they vowed to use honesty, integrity, and to do the best job they could. They did not say they would take bribes or pay for personal trips with the taxpayers money.
Yes, America's political arena is shifting; to what - it remains to be seen. Should we simply have candidates without a party affiliation run for a particular office, and we vote for them from their resume, list of experiences, and accolades?
Then, why not remove electoral colleges and just use popular votes. Let the people vote for the best candidate; if they do not perform; do not vote them back in. (There are states who have proposed this).
With the confusion that is now in America's politics ( including nominating our family and friends who are not qualified); we have no choice but to make changes.
