Poetry: Past, present and future

I stand before a grand abyss
Awaiting my eternal bliss
Then gaze inside the eyes of God
Across a wide expanse so broad
Of fulminating fire and fear
Which lies inside me very near;
And soon my heart begins to pound
Before eternity now found!

If I should choose
To dive down to the pit
And make a final fall of it
Then all my strife in life would end
And all the pain that I have carried

Will with brittle bones be buried
Leaving not a soul supreme
But just illusion's fractured dream.

No preordained philosophy
Adopted throughout history
Has given wisdom clarity
Or added to man's decency.
Now draped in darkness I stand weak
And stare from this bleak precipice.
Confronted with corruption's peak
While worn and torn by helplessness.

A million muted souls maligned
Now slide and slither in the pit.
These souls to hell have been consigned
To this abyss of senseless wit.
Consumed and full my shattered soul
Will sit within the pit's atoll
Where sacrifice for sin is made,
As man himself begins to fade.

No guaranteed reality
For all is lost to history
And soon this fragile ledge will break
As I fall to the burning lake
My soul will wander there and stare
At gods and hypocrites who share
A puffed and pompous piety
Of truth confused with fantasy.

I lean and take my final flight
To this abyss of my good night.
