Self-discipline is necessary to ensure the desired outcome of a particular situation is achieved. Self-discipline is an essential trait all freelance writers should possess. With no time clock to worry about, no boss looking over their shoulder, and freedom to set their own hours, it would be easy to slack off and never get enough work done without self-discipline.
Freelance writers need self-discipline in order to keep themselves on track to meet deadlines and goals. Self-discipline ensures freelance writers set aside a certain amount of time each day or week for writing. If this is not accomplished, deadlines will whiz by and the freelance writer will lose not only money, but also credibility. Professionalism demands self-discipline from a freelance writer.
Self-discipline also allows for healthy living when freelance writing. Every writer has to set aside a certain amount of time for exercise and stress relief. Freelance writing is time consuming and not good for the back. Without exercise, relaxation and time away from writing, freelancers will burn out. Self-discipline enables a freelance writer to set a workable schedule and have the best of all worlds.
Freelance writers need self-discipline to ensure family is not overlooked in favor of work. Freelance writers often work from home and it is easy for writing to consume them to the detriment of family time. Self-discipline is needed so the writer will make sure to budget their time appropriately and not miss out on life in favor of work.
Self-discipline is needed for freelance writers to stay organized. Without self-discipline, a freelance writer can easily get assignments mixed up, miss deadlines, or arrange for more assignments than they are capable of completing in a timely manner. Being self-disciplined allows a freelance writer to organize their time to make sure everything is done and their reputation stays intact.
Freelance writers need self-discipline in order to overcome fears and anxieties about themselves. Self-discipline allows a person to look inside him or herself and take inventory. A disciplined mind will not allow for negativity and knows it's strengths and weaknesses. Freelance writers need to be confident in their abilities, but also aware of their weaknesses. Self-discipline makes this possible.
Self-discipline and freelance writing go hand and hand. Without self-discipline, a freelance writing career will not be profitable, professionalism will suffer and health and family will fall by the wayside. All freelance writers need self-discipline to ensure a lucrative and satisfy career.
